With thousands of devotees expected to throng the Khairatabad Ganesh pandal during Ganesh Chaturthi, the Hyderabad Traffic Police on Monday announced a series of traffic diversions around the area. The measures are aimed at easing congestion and ensuring the smooth flow of vehicles in one of the city’s busiest festival zones.
Diversions in Place
According to officials, the following diversions will be implemented:
- Raj Bhavan Road to Khairatabad: Vehicles will not be allowed to move directly towards the pandal and will instead be routed via Necklace Road or Panjagutta depending on congestion levels.
- Punjagutta to Khairatabad: Traffic will be diverted at Somajiguda Circle towards Greenlands and Begumpet.
- Mint Compound to Khairatabad: Vehicles will be diverted at Necklace Rotary towards NTR Marg.
- RTC buses: Buses heading to Khairatabad will be rerouted and will stop at designated points near Lakdikapul and Panjagutta.
The traffic wing has also issued a map of alternative routes, which will be made available through the police department’s social media handles.
Parking and Public Transport
To minimize congestion, parking facilities have been arranged at Indira Park, Necklace Road, and Lower Tank Bund. Officials have urged devotees to make use of Metro Rail, MMTS, and RTC services instead of private vehicles.
Appeal from Police
Senior officials said additional personnel will be deployed around Khairatabad and adjoining areas during the festival period.
“The Khairatabad Ganesh draws lakhs of visitors each year. We appeal to citizens to plan their travel in advance, cooperate with the diversions, and use public transport to avoid inconvenience,” a senior traffic officer said.
The Khairatabad Ganesh idol is among the tallest in the country and remains a major attraction during Ganesh Chaturthi. With elaborate rituals and large gatherings expected, the city police are taking advance measures to maintain order and ensure safety during the festivities.
